Islam vs. Islamists: Voices from the Muslim Center" and its companion documentary, "Muslims Against Jihad," tell the story of courageous anti-Islamist Muslims in Western Europe, Canada and the United States and the extraordinary challenges they face in taking on adherents to the theo-totalitarian ideology known as Islamism. What is happening to these moderates – who are being ostracized, bankrupted, intimidated and in some cases, threatened with death – offers critical insights into the dangers that both they and non-Muslims are facing. These films by acclaimed Director/Producer Martyn Burke also suggest steps that can and must be taken to help empower the anti-Islamist Muslims in the struggle for their faith.
Muslims against terror; what every body should know!Reviewed by Medusa, 2009-03-03
While interviewing Muslims who live in France, United States and
Denmark; the viewer hears both sides of the story:
1- Muslims, who are proud of their faith, live in a democratic
society and participate in building the society, while keeping
their faith and spirituality. Imams, doctors, singers, journalists,
and politicians are standing up to defend Islam and their newly
chosen society against fundamentalists who are on a mission to
destroy everybody else.
2- Extreme individuals, who claim to be real Muslims, moved to
democratic countries that respect freedom of faith and speech, and
used this granted freedom to try to replace these societies with a
dictatorship, which these fundamentalists claim to be the word of
Allah.
There is no religion that asks people to kill others, and this
documentary reveals both sides of the story without bias and allows
the viewers to explore the facts. One important fact reveals that
Saudi Arabia funds these extremists, who belong to the
fundamentalist Wahabi sect. They were sent out of Saudi Arabia to
proselytize in other countries and funded with billions of dollars.
Saudi Arabia guarantees peace to itself and destruction to others
while still pretending to be a friendly country.
The simple and reasonable questions asked by the first group of
Muslims are:
If extremists want an Islamic government, why move to a democratic
country and trying to convert it? Why not going to Saudi or
Iran?
By referring to the Quran and the real teachings of Islam, the
first group proves that radical Islamists not Islam are the
problem.
The only answers that extremists offer are death threats against
everybody who disagrees with them. This blind, narrow minded
minority gave themselves the right of being God on earth; judging
who's a believer and who's not and who should live and who should
be killed.
This documentary is a great unbiased work that shows both sides of
the story and reveal the intentions of fundamentalists in Europe
and the United States. The only thing I would add to this honest
work is that these fundamentalists are not targeting civilians in
Europe and the Untied States only; they are against every open
minded person all over the world. The destruction wrought by these
groups affects civilians in Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Algeria, and
Iraq.
Countless geniuses all over the world have been assassinated by
fundamentalist groups; their anger started against other Muslims
and now has spread to the rest of the world.
Is an Islamist an evil person?Reviewed by M. Himed, 2008-10-01
I was about to give this dvd one star, but I thought hell, there is
no reason to. Muslims feel threatened when they think their
religion is being maligned, but there is nothing wrong with talking
about the truth and I feel that this video does that. As a Muslim,
I know that there is a need for a gut check for all Muslims in the
world. This dvd will help you know what kind of insanity is
happening in it. It shows us a lot of stuff about the dark side of
Islam and how moderate Muslims are trying to fight the good fight.
The only problem is that the dark side has some elements within it
which are from the foundation of the religion of Islam. Islamism,
which is defined as the belief that Islam should guide social and
political as well as personal life, is seen as something evil. It
is only evil when those who are trying to enforce it with criminal
activity. Someone in the video said it perfectly when he gave us
the example of someone who was rich and lost all his money. When
that person went by his old house, someone saw him and told him he
could get him back into that house, but he will have to break some
laws or do some illegal things. And that is how Muslims have been
thinking for the last 20 or so odd years. They want justice to
prevail and they want to be guided by the moral principles of
Islam, but they want to commit violence to achieve those
ends.
Jihad is also portrayed as having a negative connotation. We dont
think negatively when we think of self-defense, but jihad and
self-defense are almost exactly the same. Jihad comes from the word
Jahada, which means strive in Arabic. Muslims are to strive against
evil, both inwardly and outwardly and sometimes that outward
struggle requires force or fighting. The problem arises when
someone starts accusing anyone or everyone of fighting him and
thinks that he can use jihad to serve his own purpose. They say
that Israel is killing our Muslim brothers, the U.S. and the West
wants to kill Muslims in Iraq or Afghanistan. Therefore, any
American or Westerner is fair-game to be killed. This is of course
insane.
The part I did not understand in the second dvd is why did the
Iranian woman showed us her cleavage when she talked about women
being abused and forced into marriages. Can't we have a morally
upright person bring us this information? I know that we have
problems within Muslims communities and there was also a story of a
man who was given a command by his Father to kill his sister for
wanting to get a divorce. He summed it up quite nicely when he said
"no Imam ever sanctions what they do, there is an unwritten rule in
our culture and that is just what you do." Honor Killings, Arranged
Marriages, Suicide Bombings, and every other sick and backward
activity that takes place within the boundaries of the Islamic
world must not be looked at as taking place because of Islam, but
because of the people following their cultures and practicing Islam
incorrectly. These things never happened in the time of the Prophet
or the 40 years after his death and I dont think it they will be
ending anytime soon, especially when you have foreign troops in the
Middle East in the exact place that just happens to be loaded with
barrels of oil.
